Students have many travel options in regards to overseas destinations. Several students prefer studying overseas in nations such as Europe, Australia, U.S.A, and London. Students may travel abroad not only for studies, but also for working purpose. Sometimes, they even prefer traveling for vacation or holiday or even for adventure purposes. Whatever the reason, for traveling, student travel gives an insight into different cultures. In short, student travel opens a new way of life for students.

Student travel also gives you a unique opportunity to learn new languages as you travel to different destinations and learn new cultures. It also gives you an opportunity of learning and generating new ideas at a very young age. You also have lot of fun during, while in a student travel campaign. For instance, if you go on an educational tour in a group, you learn and have fun at the same time.

Responsibilities: Students get various opportunities to participate in programs sponsored by universities or their respective colleges. At such programs, students need to take complete responsibility of their own safety and health. They also get to know of different associations with universities of foreign countries. Such tours become very profitable for students with in view of their respective careers in future.

Travel Checklist:

Before you travel, it is very important to understand the geography, health risks and political scenario of the location that you intend to travel. Obtain a chart from the department of tourism and review it very carefully before finalizing the destination to travel.

These may include tips for students traveling abroad, public announcements and geographical information sheets. You may also look at associate international travel websites for extra information. This will guide you and make your traveling experience enriching and educational.

Travel and traveling are very common words used in our everyday life. We all journey because we like to journey at one point of time or another. We like to travel not only inside our corridor or home but also in parks, zoos, museums, inter-city, countries, and abroad. Traveling is fun. While journeying, we might also come across different people, culture, cuisine, arts, music, and many similar things. I have never seen anyone who does not like traveling. It is not because touring is just fun, it is that traveling educates us to whole new level.

Moving from point A to point B teaches us many things which our traditional education system cannot teach. Traditional education systems are taught behind closed doors with the help of traditional books, theories, and problems. However, the real problem can be easily understood once we come across them. Anyway, the point is: more you travel; more you learn. How? Just move. But, there are some problems associated with traveling. First, all traveling costs.

Either you cruise by air or water or land; you have to pay for your travel. If you are not paying for your travel then somebody else has to pay. This means there is cost involved, depending on your preferred destination. You do not have to pay for traveling inside your corridor, but you do have to pay for traveling litter further away from that.

Every swing you take requires distance and time. Generally, the word “travel” is used often when people travel for longer distances. All species in the universe (with some exception) travel, crawl, or move…

With technological boom, people are traveling more than ever before. People used animals for carrying them from a point A to point B. Now, they traveled frequently via man-made machines. These machines are: buses, cars, helicopters, airplanes, etc Depending on accessibility and preferable location, people are traveling more.

On one hand, people are having more babies. On other hand, traveling for many purposes. Some seek wisdom, greater happiness, enlightenment, fun, business, seminar, conferences, and whatnot.

Here are few hints on planning the trip:

1. Pack light
2. Prepare ahead
3. Book your flights on time
4. Check in advance weather condition of place where you are visiting
5. Enjoy every moment of it
6. Talk with strangers while you tour around
7. Learn another’s culture, ethics, religion, country, names (e.g. cities, places, routes), language, jokes and short catchy words or phrases
8. Love the journeying process

Have a safe journey!

If travel is your passion, and you can’t visualize yourself sitting at a desk all day, answering question about travel destinations which you would rather be visiting, becoming a Group Leader, may be your best solution.

The cruise line industry caters to the group sales methodology to fill up cruise cabins. Most of the major cruise companies will provide a free cruise for a Group Leader who sells 8 cabins or 15 full paying passengers. Some cruise companies require the group leader to pay for taxes, fees and upgrades. Smart group leaders, usually will book themselves, into an Interior cruise cabin. That way no one in the group has a less expensive cabin.

The Group Leader can sell his/her cruise or, cruise for free. This option is what makes the group leader’s opportunity so popular.

Experienced Tour Conductors, usually generate multiple methods to market their cruises or group travel events. The most common way is to locate established groups, who want to save money by traveling together. Other successful groups include special interest travel.

Because the majority of Group Leaders are not, travel agents, they may have regular jobs, and belong to social organizations and church groups which puts them in touch with hundreds of potential travelers.

There are a number of ways to get started as a Travel, Group Leader. If you are a junkie traveler, you can use your own experiences to build your confidence and your sales.

If you have a limited travel background, yet travel is a passion, you can take a home study course, or enroll in a couple of classes at your local junior college. There are also courses online, which are extremely affordable. Travel is a billion dollar industry and there are many options for learning different phases of the travel industry.

My own path through this maze was to enroll in a UC Berkeley Extension (Berkeley, Ca) course, on Group Travel. My instructor was one of the most successful group travel professionals in the country, at that time. My next step was to volunteer as a group leader for a social club who was attending an annual ski summit in Vale.

It is not necessary to spend lots of money on schooling be become an effective Group Leader. However, it is mandatory that you learn everything you can about your destination and the travel involved.

Once you have secured a basic knowledge of the type of group travel you want to offer, you can then seek out a host agency. A Host Agency is a licensed, bonded travel agency which allows travel agents or outside travel agents to book travel using their company name. There is a split in the commission, as the host agency is the legal business which allows you to book travel for your clients. Most host agencies charge a fee, and an annual fee, but not all. Fees for joining a Hosting Agency can range from zero dollars, up to $500.

Another option is to contact your local travel agency and let them know you want to work as an outside agent. Be prepared to explain what types of travel you want to offer and to what type of groups you want to specialize in. The agency owner, or manager, will provide you with the commission structure, if any, policies and procedures. Some travel agencies only offer free travel to group leaders, while others offer, free travel, and commissions.

When first starting out, it is almost always better to join a group in process, or, create a fun, 2 day trip, to get experience. My own experience included learning the procedure for a particular cruise ship. For about 5 years, every time a Princess Cruise ship docked in San Francisco, I thought I should further my travel education and be aboard ship when it cruise under the Golden Gate Bridge and out to sea. My efforts landed me in the Captain’s Circle and qualified me as a Platinum Cruise Member.

It is easy to find clients. Below is a list of ways to market your travel events.

1. Informing your family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, church members, club members, organizations, friends of friends, twitter pals, and your personal email buddies, is a great way to find new clients.

2. The second best way is to invite friends, neighbors over for a travel party or a cruise party. Ask the cruise line or the resort, for a video tape and free promotional material to share with the guest. Provide guest with snacks and (cheap) wine. Keep the wine coming! No need to be aggressive. Travel sells itself, especially, if the destination and price is of interest. You can provide your clients with a bottle of fine wine aboard ship.

Remember to ask for a deposit. Stay focused, your job is to provide information and collect checks. Ask friends to sponsor a travel party. The more parties you have, the more people you sign up. It’s that simple!

3. Make announcements at your church and your organization. Include the information in the church bulletin or your organization’s newsletter, as many times as possible.

4. Have flyers made up, but not before you have business cards printed, with your name, contact numbers, email address, name of travel event, dates and starting cost.

5. Distribute flyers, at public places or public events.

6. Use classified ads, online and offline to promote your travel event.

7. Pass out your cards, everywhere you go. Doctor’s office, cleaners, grocery store, beauty shop, stores where you shop, your children’s school, your favorite neighborhood bar, and eating establishments.

Paper work is extremely important and without it, nothing happens. Paper work must be completed correctly and forwarded to the host agency or travel agency in a timely manner. Failure to do so could result in an ugly situation, which could escalate into a legal battle.

Checks should be made out to the host agency or the travel agency. Even if the travel agency says its OK for your clients to make the check out to you, don’t do it. Get you commissions from the host agency, unless you have a Seller of Travel license. One you turn in your deposits and payments, the host agency or travel agency, will provide you with your commissions, based on your agreement.

Travel is the best form of education. As Francis Bacon has said “Travel, in the younger sort, is a part of education; in the elder, a part of experience.”

Travel is the means through which man is able to liberate himself from the trivial anxieties of this world. Which oppress him to no end. It enables him to transcend through his mechanical existence and be exposed to the wonders, excitement and novelties of this world.

If it had not been for travel and man’s insatiable curiosity, man would never have been able to spread his civilisation in all the parts of the globe. Christopher Columbus’s yearning to know what lies ahead of the Pacific landed him up in America; Vasco De Gamma’s curiosity to know what is on the other end brought him to India.

Last but not the least it was Ibn Batuta’s joy for travel and his desire to see the world that made it possible for him to become the first medieval traveler to have visited the lands of every Muslim ruler of his time. It was the work and travel of these great explorers that we have been made aware of the existence of these places.

Travel educates a man by bringing him to terms with the ground realities of life. It broadens the outlook of people and clears the difference between urban and suburban lifestyles. For instance, if one would take a trip to coastal America and then to the Midwest one would realize a wide difference between the two lifestyles.

Even in Pakistan if one would head towards Muzaffarabad in Azad Kashmir, one would seriously be shocked. Indeed one contrast is of the terrain; but being in an undeveloped surrounding, one would think that there is more insecurity in those areas than in Karachi, however, one is absolutely mistaken for those areas are safer than large cities. Shocking, yet a fact! I would never have realised this if I had traveled; hence I now believe that travel is the best form of education. Apart from this, travel also gives a person first hand information of the people living in different countries.

Although, now with advancements in technology, the television and Internet fulfill this task quite effectively yet sometimes its make belief reality oppresses us. Personally witnessing the location, meeting the populous and eating the local food has its own charisma and most importantly a lesson, sometimes accompanied with an adventure.

However, some people consider travel to be a waste of time rather than a mode of education. They are drastically in contrast to those who find inner peace, tranquility, recreation, enjoyment, health and fitness in traveling. These people would rather be engrossed in their own hectic lives than take a break and sink into the majestic beauty of God’s creation. For such people, the statement of Robert Louis Stevenson truly befits; “For my part, I travel not to go anywhere but to go, I travel for travel’s sake. The great affair is to move.

So, you’re going on a long drive, eh? Going to spend a few hours (or maybe a few days) all packed together like sardines in your family roadster? Is it going to be fun or a nightmare on wheels?

Keeping your children occupied and involved in something fun (and even educational) may be just the ticket to maintaining your sanity and theirs. You may even be able to avoid a few dozen recitations of classic family travel poetry including, “Don’t make me come back there!” and “Do I need to turn this car around?”

Stereophonic Sound

Listen to a wide variety of music, from the Nylons to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, from classical to ethnic folk, Kids love all different rhythms and meters.

Books and scriptures on tape are a wonderful alternative. There are many children’s music and story tapes as well.

Take a scan through your radio dial. But beware! NPR and talk radio can drive the kids bonkers!

Letters & Language

See who can be first to find each letter of the alphabet from a-z, in order. Or make it a cooperative effort.

Instead of looking for the letters themselves, look for objects that start with the letters. A is for aurora borealis (assuming you’re traveling through Alaska). B is for battering ram (assuming you’re travels take you to… the middle ages?) Well, you get the picture.

Go through the whole alphabet, thinking of three words that start with each letter. To make it tougher, confine the words to a specific category. For example, in the “animals” category, A is for alligator, antelope, anteater. B is for buffalo, bison (hey, they are different!), boar.

Chant “I’m going on a trip and I’m going to take a…” The first item starts with an A. The second person adds a B word, and restates the A word. The third player adds a C word and repeats the B and A words, and so on. Alphabet and memory work in one.

Rotate through the family with each person saying a word that begins with the letter the previous word ended with. This can also be made more difficult by requiring the words to fall in into a defined category, a specific syllable count, or even a rhyme scheme.

Chant “The minister’s cat is an [adjective] cat,” over and over with each person taking turns at filling in the adjective. In the first round all the adjectives must start with an A, i.e. “an anxious cat,” “an average cat,” “an articulate cat.” Continue adding words until someone misses the rhythm. Then you move to the letter B, as in “a beautiful cat,” “a babbling cat, ” “a balding cat,” etc.

Pick an object that everyone can see. Begin by describing the object in one word. Each person, in turn, adds one more descriptive word to make a clearer description of the object. It may progress something like this: cow; brown cow; big, brown cow; spotted, big, brown cow; shiny, spotted, big, brown cow; etc.

Marvelous Mapping

Check out the license plates of the other cars on the road. When you identify the state the car is from, try to name the capital. To make the game more challenging try to identify the state’s nickname, tree, flower, bird, etc.

Predict which states you will see most and least often. Catalog the number of states or countries are represented on the license plates you see. You can even graph out the resulting statistics.

Watch the road signs. Have the kids identify what road you are traveling on and which roads to take to reach your destination. Figure how long it will take to arrive at a number of the posted cities or attractions along the way.

Having a few fun ideas up your sleeve can help make time fly while traveling.

If you’re just starting as a home based travel agent, you might be attracted to the prospect of dealing with all types of travels. At first, this might seem like a good idea. You’ll have the chance to get more profit as you won’t be filtering down your customers.

In the long run, however, generalizing in your travel business can lead to your business drowning in the sea of many other travel businesses out there-and I tell, you, there are many of them. If you want to stand out and survive, you have to find your own niche. You must have a specialty. Only through this will you be able to create a name in this industry.

What are some of the travel niches that you may want to choose from? Here are some options:

• Cruise Travel. This is a different kind of specialty as this involves travel by sea. Families and couples going on a cruise vacation are your most probable clients here.

• Business Travel. If you specialize in this type of travel, you can expect to handle businessmen or groups of professionals. These are individuals who may be traveling for seminars or conventions. Aside from airline bookings and accommodation, you may handle the tasks of finding function halls for meetings and business gatherings.

• All-Inclusive Travel. If you’re specializing in all-inclusive travels, you can expect to be dealing with different establishments to meet the personal needs of your clients: airlines, hotels, restaurants, and activity centers.

• Educational Travel. Educational travels are organized tours, often for children and students. In this specialty, you may have to provide the added service of being the guide during the tour.

There are other travel niches that you may want to consider as your specialty. You can affiliate yourself with a host agency that specializes in your niche. This way, you won’t have to start from scratch as you’ll have the support you need as a home based travel agent.
